Running for Town Board Member Position Town of Goshen
My name is Annmarie Rolo and I am running for Goshen Town Councilwoman. I grew up in Washingtonville, Orange County, New York and aside from college, have lived here my entire life. I have been a resident of Goshen for 12 years. I attended St. Columba Elementary School, in Chester and graduated as Class Valedictorian. I graduated with honors and a member of NHS from Burke Catholic High School in 1984. I graduated SUNY Purchase on the Dean's List in 1989 with a BA in Literature. My father was a small business owner of two family businesses ( the former Johnson Country Club in Johnson, NY and HarJa Metal Fabricating Corp. In Sloatsburg, NY) and I worked from a young age in both. I am divorced and remarried, have raised three sons, two who graduated from Goshen High School, one currently still attending.
I founded the Washingtonville Woman’s Soccer League in 2002 now known as Orange County Soccer League and served on its executive board for 12 years. I have seved as a cathechist for 17 years at St. Mary's in Washingtonville and St. John the Evangelist in Goshen. I helped form a woman's theater group, Women in Arts, and produced shows which benefitted local charities such as Inspire, Safe Homes, Autism, and the Red Cross. As a local program coordinator at Florida Public Library I developed programs for teens and adults encouraging literacy, as well as working on a countywide RCLS committee in connection with our award winning Orange County Big Read programs. I have worked for the last 14 years as a paralegal in a local general law practice, and have enjoyed working with the Courts, Orange County Clerk’s Office, OC Department of Social Services, other local law firms and of course, our local clients. Through this array of experience I have gained a broad overview of the needs of our seniors, our families and our local businesses.
I am running to represent all of the citizens of Goshen, by listening to their concerns and vision. I feel strongly that every one of us should be considered when looking to the future of this town, and that there must be no deference to those who often use financial contributions as a way to secure their agenda. I have a high regard for upholding the law, and plan on considering all decisions legally and ethically for Goshen. I highly value Goshen’s contribution in American history as one of the first communities that formed the United States today. Together, we can create a community that will serve as a model for others in the future. This must be done with innovation, planning, truthfulness, an eye on our natural environment and resources, and casting off of old systems that no longer serve us efficiently.
I look forward to working with you, and for you, so we may bring Goshen into a thriving future that does not compromise the history of where we came from, or the quality of life of our entire township.
I ask you to vote for me on November 7, 2017 in the General Election, that I can begin to work for a stronger, unified Goshen.
Running for Town Supervisor Position Town of Goshen
Hello, my name is Brad Barnhorst and I am running for Supervisor in the Town of Goshen on the Democratic, Green, and Protect Goshen lines.
Rather than governing from behind as a reaction to the development pressures brought forth from the top down that disregard the wishes of those who live in the town, I will work with the entire community to determine and then implement a plan for the intelligent growth of Goshen, building on its strength and identity.
We are unique as we are within a reasonable commute to New York City, yet retain rural character and charm. We must not casually surrender that. We must be proactive rather than reactive; the town will and must grow, but that growth must match the needs and goals of the community. Now is the time for a fresh voice and solid comprehensive planning. We can achieve this for Goshen with your vote for me in the November election. While change never stops, we need to manage that change so that it fits with the desires of the community as a whole.
• I commit to transparency in operation and am an advocate for open government.
• I will increase the use of technology within the town government to improve efficiency and to make it easier for citizens to be engaged.
• Everyone who lives here has a stake in how the townevolves, and deserves to have their voice heard.
• Increased involvement of the community results in improved outcomes.
• When issues arise that have the potential significantly to impact the entire community, the government should gather the input of the full community.
• Robust analyses of potential impacts are essential before major changes are allowed to impact the town.
•Dialogue between the Town Board and the citizens is an integral part of transparent governing. The era of refusing to engage the citizens must come to an end.
I have been a Goshenite since 1999 when my wife Christine and I found our dream farmhouse. We chose Goshen as the place to raise our family. I met Christine as an undergraduate at Notre Dame and we both went to graduate school at Purdue University. I have my master's degree in Chemical Engineering and currently work within the technology portion of the health care industry, integrating my company’s systems with those of our clients. My experience in teaching, mentoring, project management, and integration will serve Goshen well.
Your vote for me is a vote for the future of Goshen: a
solid future of responsible growth and sustainable quality of life.
